Hello, hello! I come today, on the day of Harry Potter and JK Rowling's birthday and the release day of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child script book with an interesting post. YES I GOT TICKETS FOR THE CURSED CHILD YES I’M FLYING ALL THE WAY TO THE UK JUST TO WATCH IT AND YES I’M TELLING YOU HOW I SOLD MY SOUL FOR THESE TICKETS. *calms self down*.
First, a few disclaimers of sorts. These tickets are expensive, you will have to trust on luck a lot, you will probably cry or scream in frustration while trying to get them.
And now, let’s proceed to HOW MICA GOT CURSED CHILD TICKETS AND DIDN’T DIE IN THE PROCESS. This post is probably common knowledge, but I just wanted to make itt so if you hate idec.
1. The before
Believe it or not, by the time I decided I wanted to go to London and watch this freaking play, all dates were already sold out. ALL OF THEM. The show runs until May 2017 (as of today) and not one date had a seating.
My plan was on 2017 from the begging. Flying and staying in London was already a huge amount of money I had to save and above all I needed time. With this is mind, I knew the Friday Forty wouldn’t be an option, I NEEDED TO PLAN MY TRIP GODDAMN IT.
If you’re now asking yourself: “How the hell did you ordinary human being got tickets WITHOUT entering the Friday Forty?”, let me tell you a secret: tickets newsletter. This newsletter exists so when new tickets come up, most probably returned tickets, you'll be the first to know and so hold a better chance at getting them once they get out. This doesn't mean they guarantee your tickets but it's as close as it gets with this play.
So first things first: GO NOW AND SIGN THE FUCK OUT OF THAT NEWSLETTER.
2. The waiting
I think I signed up to the newsletter somewhere around mid May, I honestly can't remember exactly. Anyways, my hopes were pretty down to be honest. I already knew tickets sold out in like a minute every time they released more, so I was trying not to get my hopes up. I always fail spectacularly in this department BUT I TRIED.
So, tickets would be released at 1 pm London time, meaning 9 am Mica's time. This was actually not convenient because since I have to be at work at 9:30, at 9 I would be commuting. You have no idea the anxiety and stress it meant to acknowledge this, but more into that later.
I usually wake up at 7:30 on weekdays, but I set my alarm at 6 am that day. This turned out to be completely unnecessary. If you get into the website before the time they release the tickets, you'll just get to a loooong queue that will get you nowhere. I didn't know this BUT NOW YOU DO, so you're welcome.
I take the bus to work at 8:05, it was 8 am and I decided to leave my queue on my computer and start a new one on my cellphone. At this point, there was around 3.000 people in front of me YOU READ THAT RIGHT. I was bummed, there was no way in hell I was going to get tickets now. I was this close to give up on the whole thing, but I didn't.
I commuted the whole way to work looking at my phone, I probably looked like a looney to must people but it's Harry Potter so who cares. And then, just when I was about to get to my stop THERE WERE LIKE 5 PEOPLE IN FRONT ME. I took my credit card faster than a a cheetah.
When it was finally my turn, I was getting off the first bus I and getting into the second. Trust me, my stress levels were HIGH. I got into the second bus, looked at my phone and TADAH! TICKETS WERE FREAKING AVAILABLE FOR MY REQUIRED DATE. But wait...
Tears of blood run down my eyes. I got an ERROR page, and ACTUAL ERROR PAGE WHILE BUYING MY TICKETS. Why did I do? I refreshed the page. I figured what the hell, I lost my spot on the queue anyways, let's give it another try.
This time I had around 200 people in front of me, which probably meant lots of others got the error page, or it was already sold out and people were abandoning the line. I almost drop out of it too, but for some forsaken reason I stayed with my phone clutched in my hands and my credit card as ready as a credit card can be.
And then, it finally happened. I SELECTED MY DATE, I SELECTED THE AVAILABLE SEATING (be prepared for them to be the most expensive, which is £130 per ticket for both parts), GOT MY CREDIT CARD NUMBER (wrong at the first try, I was really freaking out ok?), AND:
By the way, I just got an email that the next released tickets will be available August 4th for showings up to December 2017 in case anyone is interested!

I have a big job interview
tomorrow! I’m not sure it’s the best position, but it is a very big company here,
and I would do creative stuff, which is always a plus to me. It’s my second
interview already so I guess that’s a good sign! I’m still pretty nervous but
you know, hopefully in next Sunday’s post I’ll have good news.
I’ll also be posting only on
Sundays. I guess the three times a week schedule was a bit too ambitious. I’m
currently only working 6 hours a day, but if I get this job, those hours would
be up to 9, and I’m starting Art school in two weeks, so it would be impossible
to update this blog that often.
Anyways, let’s get to the post,
shall we? I have favorite authors, and authors I would auto-buy from. Meaning,
I would buy any book these people write, without even reading the blurb. Why? Well,
I love them, their writing style and of course, their books. So, let’s see:
JK Rowling: if you’ve read my Harry Potter re-read experience, then
you know by now how much I love JK Rowling. I can’t get enough of her, I
literally buy her books before they even have a title and so far there hasn’t
been any disappointments. I love Harry Potter (duh), but I’m also obsessed with
Cormoran Strike’s series and I devoured The Casual Vacancy. So yes, that’s why
she’s first. (ALSO LET’S FANGIRL FOR A MOMENT ABOUT THE CURSED CHILD OKAY?
DISGHUKJSDGHUJDJKGFDG. Okay).
Rick Riordan: I struggled on whether or not to choose Riordan here.
After all the Percy Jackson books, I would say YES OF COURSE. But after Magnus Chase, I’m kind of torn. It wasn’t the best, to be honest. I didn’t enjoy it
that much and the plot was basically Percy Jackson with a few changes here and
there. I don’t know if I’ll be continuing that series, but I would still give
Riordan’s books a chance.
Rainbow Rowell: also known as Queen of Romance, in my opinion. The
first Rowell book I read was Eleanor & Park, and that was it for me.
Attachments and Fangirl soon followed and then I bought Landline without looking back. Carry On, the same. I seriously can’t imagine a world where I wouldn’t
buy a Rainbow Rowell book immediately.
Ruta Sepetys: it’s weird, because I only read Between Shades of Gray
by Sepetys, but again, that was it for me. I freaking loved it. Salt to the sea
it’s her new book and I don’t own it yet because of financial issues (I try),
but you can bet I’m going to! Alongside any book she ever writes. If you’re
into historical fiction, then Sepetys is definitely the one for you.
Brandon Sanderson: a must for any fantasy lover, and that’s me
here. Mistborn captured my heart in a way hardly any book does. After The Well
of Ascension, I couldn’t stop shelving all of his books. Fortunately, there’s
quite a lot.
Jane Austen: you’re probably thinking I’m insane or something! Yes,
I know she’s dead, but if she weren’t, I would buy anything Jane Austen. I’m
currently buying her Vintage Classics edition because 1) they’re gorgeous, and
2) there’s never enough Jane Austen editions. So yeah, this one’s dead, but I
still would auto-buy from her in an alternate universe or something.
So that’s that. What do you guys
think? Do you agree on these? What authors would you auto-buy from?
I finished college this December,
and the whole time I had one thing in mind: I wanted to re read the
whole Harry Potter series after graduating. I was going through a major reading
slump, writing your final thesis leaves you tired like that, and I bought my
brand new HP box set six months earlier, so it was the perfect opportunity.
What did I learn during this
re read? First things first: I was relying on the movies too much. A whole lot,
actually. There were so many key elements that made the Harry Potter books better
than the movies, and I’ve forgotten them all, even though this was definitely
not my first time revisiting the novels.
On this point, let’s start with
the obvious: Ron. Ron hatred is actually quite common in the HP fandom. He can
come off as a jealous mommy’s boy, and sometimes he lets his emotions get the
best of him. Even though I had my
problems with Ron, I was never on the “I hate Ron Weasley band-wagon”. Re
reading the whole series, I could see more clearly his character development, and
honestly he’s a much better friend than the movies show us. It is well known
some of Hermione’s moving lines in the movies were actually Ron’s in the books,
for example:

| Hermione: If you want to kill Harry, you’ll have to kill us, too! |
So yeah, I took a brand new
liking to Ron, now that the movies’ characterisation was replaced by JK Rowling’s.
I still had one problem though, and that is, Ron is kind of a sexist.
Especially, when Hermione and Ginny are concerned. He actually almost calls
Ginny a slut, is constantly wondering who she’s with and pretty much stalks
Hermione every time she gets close to a boy, even if said boy is Harry.
Moving on from Ron, I learned to
love a character that was utterly ruined in the movies, and that’s Ginny. God,
I love Ginny. She’s fierce, has principles, loves her friends, gives Luna a
chance and it’s not afraid to step back when Harry needs her to. Plus, she
couldn’t give a damn about anybody’s opinion on her choices, and I love her for
that. Also, I now ship Harry/Ginny, and that didn’t happen the first time I
read about their relationship.
Sirius was another character that
strike me slightly different while re reading. I found him quite annoying and was 100% on Mrs.
Weasley and Hermione’s side on his obsession with Harry and James’
similarities. I mourned his death though, it gets me every time.
Speaking of death, I have also
found a new appreciation for Dumbledore. We all know Michael Gambon took a
different turn when he stepped in as Hogwarts’ Headmaster. Gambon’s Dumbledore
was a little more unattached and well, ruder, that book-Dumbledore. Because of
this “newfound” Dumbledore the books presented me, I freaking cried my eyes out
when he died. I know I had a similar reaction when I first read Half-Blood
Prince, but since I had long read it, this time it really hit me. Especially
when Fawkes starts singing, oh God.

| Never forget |
Anyways, that’s pretty much
everything I learned during this re read. There’s probably more but I don’t
want to bore you to be honest. Harry Potter will always have a special place in
my heart, I actually never EVER EVER re read books. But when it comes to HP, I
rarely have a choice.
What about you? Did you ever re read the Harry Potter series? Do you agree with me on these notes, or have something else to add? Please let me know!
